Amazon Planet sponsors local Jungle Marathon athlete

Amazon Planet, manufacturer of Wonderfruit Açai^®, has the pleasure of sponsoring one of the local participants of the Jungle Marathon^®, a 200km adventure race in the Amazon rainforest whose fourth edition will take place from October 7th to 16th 2008 (www.junglemarathon.com). "It takes a lot of time and effort to prepare for such a grueling race" says Elton Bastos, known as Bafo, "and good equipment is crucial if you want to compete for the top spot." Born and raised in the Amazon State of Pará, Bafo has always been the athletic type. "The majestic Tapajós river is my swimming pool and its beaches and surrounding forest my running grounds" he tells proudly. 29 years old, Bafo has already competed in over 100 events, both in the Amazon and in Brazilian cities like Salvador and Joao Pessoa, winning 20. Besides the tough training schedule he submits himself too, a balanced diet is his other mantra. "Fish, meat, pasta, vegetables, fruit - I eat a little bit of everything" he says "but what I won't do without is a bowl of thick, delicious açai - it energizes me and strengthens me." Winning the Jungle Marathon would also be a great present for his wife: "She is expecting our first child" he proudly tells us. Good luck, Bafo!
